Job Description

Warrah Specialist School, located on a beautiful rural property in Dural, NSW, provides individualised education for students with moderate to severe disabilities from Kindergarten to Year 12. As Australia’s only Steiner-based special needs school, we follow Rudolf Steiner’s Curative Education principles, offering a rich, therapeutic curriculum including woodwork, gardening, farming, arts, and life skills. We are part of Warrah, a not-for-profit supporting people with disability through diverse services.

We are seeking a compassionate Casual Teaching Assistant to help deliver nurturing, engaging learning for students with disabilities, including those with complex needs, challenging behaviours, and personal care needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in teaching and supervision of students across classroom and outdoor activities
  • Provide one-on-one and small-group support, including during tailored sessions, therapeutic activities, and integration programs
  • Support students with personal care needs, such as toileting, hygiene, and mealtime assistance
  • Assist students who display challenging behaviours, using positive behaviour support strategies
  • Prepare materials and help maintain a clean, calm, and supportive environment
  • Escort students to and from transportation and off-site activities
  • Contribute to observations, record-keeping, planning, and meetings
  • Participate in reflective practice, staff meetings, case studies, and professional development

Desired Skills and Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) and NDIS Worker Check (NDISWC)
  • Current CPR Certificate
  • Understanding of and commitment to the NSW Disability Services Act (1993)
  • Respectful and compassionate approach to each student’s individuality and potential
  • Ability to follow directions from the Principal and Class Teacher
  • Willingness to work in a team-oriented, holistic, and creative school environment

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience and/or training in Steiner/Curative Education or a related field
  • Experience working with children with disabilities, including those with challenging behaviours and personal care needs
